Today I discovered that Mychael Wordsmythe (Dave Gotcher) passed away a few months ago. I remember Mychael from many faires in Glen Helen. He was an incredible performer, with a way of telling a story which captured the interest immediately.

I first saw him doing one of his little rhymes, to the left, in one of the Glen Helen faires. I was immediately captivated by the charm of this fellow. His rosy cheeks, well groomed beard and friendly face made me just want to stand there for hours, listening to his words.

I don't know much else about this man, other than he was well loved among patrons and performers alike. I have never heard a bad word spoken about him; he seemed kind and gentle and struck me as a good being. I will forever remember his warm smile to me, a relatively new visitor to the faire, and his kind words and excellent storytelling.

I found this brief note on DragonMarsh and have reproduced it in full here.

Word has reached us that Mychael Wordsmythe (Dave Gotcher) passed away on Sunday, June 12th. Mychael was a fixture in the Southern California Faire scene, performing at the Big Faire out in San Bernardino, and at the Crossroad Faires. He was also a magician, and a character actor at Universal Studios (CA) playing W.C. Fields, among others. Mychael had a gentle way about him, and was always upbeat- his stories were full of hope, wit and humor.

He was involved in so many communities (storytelling , gonzo theatre ,faire, etc.)that I'm hoping that if you knew him, you would pass this on to others who may have known him. Mychael, recently moved to Texas, and was getting involved out there, with his wife Holly, and Stepson Jason. Mychael had some ongoing medical issues, (diabetes, phlebitis, etc.)and had gone to the hospital. He was there a few days, and they released him. After returning home, he reported shortness of breath, and as his wife was propping up his pillows, he reached out- and was gone. I know that there are many folks out there who know him- I'm waiting for more info from the family. I spoke with his wife, Holly, and things are still in flux. He performed on the DreamShapers stage many times, and as another Faire teller, he was a hard act to follow- he made friends by the truck load. If you would, please pass this on. Thanks- True

Personal note from the Dragon Mychael was well liked by everyone here at the Marsh and we could count on a laugh whenever we saw him at an event or when he stopped in at the store while in the area. He was one of the "Old Guard" of Faire street improv & will be missed by all of us here at DragonMarsh. Our well wishes & good thoughts go out to his family in their time of loss.

If you've enjoyed your visit, please take a moment to drop some change into the tip jar to the left. Many thanks.
